What Event Liability Insurance Covers
When you host or organize an event, you take on added responsibility. Event liability insurance is designed to protect you from unexpected incidents that may occur during your event.
Coverage built to help with:
- Guest injuries
- Damage to community property or rented equipment*
- Alcohol-related incidents**
For example, if a guest slips and falls during your event, coverage can help pay for medical expenses and related claims.
*Does not cover damages to your own property, decor, or owned items. Only intended to cover damages to rentals or those of your guests.
**Liquor liability insurance is only included if alcohol is complimentary (not sold). Retail liquor liability is available for purchase when alcohol is sold at your event.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Quickly Can I Get Coverage?
Most policies can be purchased online in just a few minutes. Proof of insurance is emailed directly to the email used to buy a policy, and policy documents are accessible (with unlimited, free downloads) at any time from your online account.

Can I Modify My Coverage Later?
Yes, you can modify your coverage later through your online account (as long as the event has not started). To do so:
- Log in to your online account
- If it’s your first time, create an account using the same email address provided during purchase
- Navigate to the “Manage Policies” section
From here, you can add an endorsement, add additional coverage options, or add/update additional insured information.
If you need help updating information like the policy length, your information, or something else, please contact a member of our team.
How Do Claims Work?
Filing a claim is quick and can be completed entirely online:
- Log in to your online account
- Click “Manage Policies”
- Click “File a Claim”
- Provide the required details
- Submit your claim
Once submitted, claims are typically processed within 24–48 hours. After processing, an adjuster will reach out within 1–2 business days to guide you through the next steps.
Is There a Minimum Coverage Period?
Yes, the minimum coverage period is 1–4 days, depending on the event type and setup. Coverage can often be extended if your event spans multiple days, including events longer than five days.
What If My Event Includes Vendors?
If your event includes vendors (or outside operators), each vendor should carry their own liability insurance policy. Each vendor must then list you as an additional insured on their policy.
We also recommend obtaining a Hold Harmless Agreement when working with outside vendors or operators.
What Are Excluded Activities?
Some activities are not covered under standard event liability policies, including:
- Inflatables or bounce houses
- Mechanical rides
- Animal-related activities
- Certain water-based activities
If you have an event that includes an excluded activity, it doesn’t mean you’re completely exempt from buying a policy. You may still be able to acquire coverage for the event itself; just keep in mind that the excluded activity would be excluded from coverage.
Can I Still Get Coverage With Higher-Risk Activities?
Yes, you can still get coverage with higher-risk activities. For example, if you have a bounce house at a birthday party, you can still buy an insurance policy to cover the party, but incidents related to the bounce house would not be covered.
In these situations, additional steps may be required to reduce risk:
- Request a Hold Harmless Agreement
- Only work with third-party vendors or operators that carry their own liability insurance
- Ensure third-party vendors list you on their policy as an additional insured
This helps protect you while allowing your event to move forward.
