Event Insurance for Residents

Hosting a private event in a shared community space? Get the simple, trusted coverage you need to help protect yourself, your guests, and the property during your event.

What Event Liability Insurance Covers for Residents

When you host an event in a clubhouse, amenity space, or other shared area, you may be responsible for unexpected incidents that happen during your gathering. Insurance Canopy’s event liability insurance is designed to protect you from common claims that can arise while hosting.

Coverage built to help with:

  • Guest injuries
  • Damage to community property or rented equipment*
  • Alcohol-related incidents**

For example, if a guest slips and falls during your event, coverage can help pay for medical expenses and related claims.

This coverage empowers residents to host with more confidence while also helping meet community insurance requirements.

*Does not cover damages to your own property, decor, or owned items. Only intended to cover damages to FirstService Residential communities or those of your guests.

**Liquor liability insurance is only included if alcohol is complimentary (not sold).

How Do I Buy A Policy?

Residents need to ensure the following is added to their policy during the application process:

Additional insureds extend liability protection to other parties involved in your event.

If your event includes outside vendors or operators, each vendor should carry their own liability insurance and list the local community and corporate company as additional insureds on their own policies.

If your event includes outside vendors or operators, each vendor should carry their own liability insurance policy. Each outside operator also needs to list you, the local community, and the corporate company as additional insureds on their own policies.

We also recommend obtaining a Hold Harmless Agreement when working with outside vendors.

Yes, in most cases you can still purchase coverage for the overall event. However, the higher-risk activity itself would be excluded from coverage.

For example, if your event includes a bounce house, the event may still be insured, but claims related to the bounce house would not be covered.

If you use an outside vendor or operator for a high-risk activity, they must carry their own liability insurance and list you, the local community, and the corporate company as additional insureds on their policy. We also recommend obtaining a Hold Harmless Agreement.
