What Event Liability Covers for Lifestyle Directors & Management Staff
When your community hosts an event in a clubhouse, amenity space, or other shared space, you may be responsible for unexpected incidents that happen during the gathering. Insurance Canopy’s event liability insurance is designed to protect HOA/Association Lifestyle Directors and management staff from common claims that can arise while hosting.
Coverage built to help with:
- Resident or guest injuries
- Damage to community property or rented equipment*
- Alcohol-related incidents**
For example, if a resident or guest slips and falls during your event, coverage can help pay for medical expenses and related claims.
This coverage empowers communities to host with more confidence while also fulfilling internal insurance requirements.
*Does not cover damages to your own property, decor, or owned items. Only intended to cover damages to the FirstService Residential community property or your guests.
**Liquor liability insurance is only included if alcohol is complimentary (not sold).
How Do I Buy a Policy?
Lifestyle Directors, leadership personnel, and local management staff need to ensure the following is added to the policy during the application process:
- The corporate company is listed as an additional insured
- A Waiver of Subrogation endorsement
Additional insureds extend liability protection to other parties involved in your event.
If your event includes outside vendors or operators, each vendor should carry their own liability insurance and list the local community and corporate company as additional insureds on their own policies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does This Policy Cover Community-Hosted Events on FirstService Residential Property?
Yes, this policy is designed for community-hosted events taking place on FirstService Residential property, including clubhouses, event rooms, amenity spaces, and other shared community areas. It will allow you or your team to meet the insurance requirements for hosting events on FirstService properties.
Who Is This Coverage Designed For?
This coverage is designed for HOA/Association Lifestyle Directors, FirstService employees, leadership personnel, and local management staff who are organizing or hosting community events on behalf of the property or association.
What If Our Event Includes an Outside Vendor, Entertainer, or Rental Company?
If your event includes outside vendors or operators, each vendor should carry their own liability insurance policy. Each outside operator should also list the local community and the corporate company as additional insureds on their own policies.
We also recommend obtaining a Hold Harmless Agreement when working with outside vendors.
Can We Still Get Coverage If the Event Includes a Higher-Risk Activity?
Yes, in most cases you can still purchase coverage for the overall event. However, the higher-risk activity itself would be excluded from coverage.
For example, if your community event includes a bounce house, the event may still be insured, but claims related to the bounce house would not be covered.
If you use an outside vendor or operator for a high-risk activity, they must carry their own liability insurance and list the local community and the corporate company as additional insureds on their policy. We also recommend obtaining a Hold Harmless Agreement.
Can I Update My Policy Later?
Yes, you can make certain updates through your online account, as long as the event has not started. You can also contact our team if you need help making changes.
